President Trump trolled New York’s Socialist Mayor, Zohran Mamdani, on Monday for supporting ID requirements for everything but voting and called on the US Senate to cancel or postpone its August recess until the SAVE America Act is passed.

During a July 27 press conference on his new state-run grocery stores with locked-in 30% discounts to destroy local businesses, Mamdani revealed plans to require identification for grocery shoppers. “This is a program for New Yorkers to put food on the table, not a program for people to be able to make a quick buck through reselling,” he said.

Jeanny Pak, the interim president and CEO of the NYC Economic Development Corporation, said it will be a “library card-esque” program to “manage who is buying.” It kind of sounds like a voter card to manage who is voting.

OANN’s Alexandra Ingersoll asked Trump for his reaction and message to Democrats who oppose voter ID requirements on Monday.

“Well, I wish they’d have an ID to access the voting booth. You know, they don’t want to access the voting booth with any identification,” Trump noted. “We want voter ID, and we want proof of citizenship.”

Trump further slammed Mamdani for New York’s requirement to show two forms of identification to get paid to shovel snow during severe Winter storms. Mamdani previously defended ID requirements as a “long-standing program and long-standing requirement.” But when it comes to ID to vote, this is somehow a new way for Republicans and White people to disenfranchise minorities.

“Well, he also had anything where you had to have two different IDs to shovel snow during the winter, right?” Trump added.

When asked if Senate Republicans should cancel August recess to pass the SAVE America Act before the midterms,

“I think there’s nothing more important than the SAVE America Act. I think they should stay,” Trump said.

“They do what they want, but I think they should stay. I think it’s so important to get it passed.”

The Senate is scheduled to begin its three-week recess at the end of the week, then spend almost the entirety of October out of session.

If the SAVE America Act is not passed, it will not be in effect during the midterm elections.
