Chase is giving its premium credit cardholders a new way to use their travel benefits for stays: vacation homes.

Starting January, Chase Travel will expand The Edit, its curated collection of luxury hotels and resorts, to include more than 10,000 vacation home properties. The homes will join the more than 1,500 hotels and resorts already in the collection, giving eligible cardholders more options for using their annual travel credits.

Thursday’s announcement comes alongside new survey findings that suggest travelers are increasingly planning vacations around credit card rewards, group experiences, and opportunities to learn something new.

In an interview with Fast Company, Chase Travel’s CEO, Jason Wynn, said the move reflects changing traveler preferences, particularly among younger consumers and people planning vacations with larger groups.

“We’ve actually been in the vacation home business for a little while,” Wynn said. “We launched vacation home rentals on Chase travel last year.”

The company added properties from Plum Guide, a selective vacation rental platform, earlier this year and has seen growing interest from cardholders. For Chase, the expansion is part of a broader effort to make its travel platform useful for more types of trips, whether that means a luxury hotel, a private house on the beach, or something else.

Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders are getting new vacation rental perks

The new vacation houses will be available through The Edit to Chase Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Reserve for Business, and J.P. Morgan Reserve cardmembers.

Unlike booking a typical vacation rental through a platform like Airbnb, eligible home stays will come with some of the benefits travelers might typically associate with luxury hotels. For instance, cardmembers will receive a $150 in-stay credit that can be used toward experiences and services such as massages, private chefs, and airport transportation. Properties will also offer perks like early check-in and late checkout when the property can accommodate them.

There’s an important catch: To take advantage of those benefits you’ll have to book a minimum four-night stay.

These also aren’t your regular run-of-the-mill vacation properties. The homes are being curated in partnership with Plum Guide, which evaluates properties against more than 150 criteria covering comfort, design, and location.

When they go to make a booking, Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers will have access to Reserve Travel Designers, a 24/7 concierge service that can help match travelers with properties and provide assistance before, during, and after their stays.

Wynn said the goal isn’t to replace luxury hotels with vacation rentals, but instead to offer its customers a larger variety of options that match the reason they’re traveling.

“I don’t think it’s either or a situation. I think hotels and vacation homes fundamentally serve different needs, and we’re starting to see consumers increasingly want access to both,” he said.

For instance, a hotel might be the better choice for a couple taking a long weekend, while a private home might be better for a multigenerational family vacation or a weeklong trip with friends.

The expansion also creates another way for cardholders to use their annual Edit credits.

Personal Sapphire Reserve cardmembers can receive up to $500 in annual statement credits for eligible stays through The Edit. Beginning January 1, Sapphire Reserve for Business cardmembers can receive up to $1,000 annually, with a maximum of $250 per stay.

Qualifying bookings must be prepaid and include at least two nights at a participating hotel property. Travelers hoping to receive the additional vacation home benefits, however, will need to stay at least four nights.

Chase isn’t limiting vacation rental bookings to its most expensive cards. Freedom, Ink Business Preferred, and Sapphire Preferred cardmembers can also book from hundreds of thousands of vacation home properties through Chase Travel, although those reservations don’t necessarily include The Edit’s premium benefits.

Credit card rewards are changing how people book travel

Chase’s vacation rental expansion arrives as its own research suggests travelers are making rewards a bigger part of their vacation planning.

In a survey of 4,082 travelers and diners, conducted between August 31 and September 8, 2026, nearly half of respondents (48%) said travel was a primary way they redeemed rewards.

Rewards aren’t just helping travelers pay for trips. They’re also influencing the decisions people make along the way. Some 51% of respondents said rewards have influenced their hotel choices, and 50% said the same about airlines. Another 41% of respondents said rewards have affected the type of room or airline cabin they book, and for 28%, rewards have influenced whether they take a trip at all.

Wynn gave another detail about how customers are paying for their bookings.

“One of the more interesting things we’re seeing is that more than half of transactions on Chase travel are now paid in cash rather than points,” he said.

He said that wasn’t the case a year ago, suggesting customers are increasingly using the platform even when they aren’t redeeming rewards.

At the same time, Chase’s survey found that 57% of respondents would rather use saved points to reduce travel costs when prices rise than pay cash and continue accumulating rewards. Chase has been investing in benefits such as Points Boost, which can make points worth up to twice as much on select travel bookings, and a price match guarantee.

For Chase, the goal is to persuade customers to book through its platform regardless of whether they’re paying with cash or rewards. Wynn said the company is already seeing significant growth in overall travel demand, with Chase Travel bookings up 14% year over year.

Another trend Chase expects to see more of in 2027 is the rise of the “craftcation,” a trip built around learning something new. Nearly seven in 10 travelers (69%) said they were interested in vacations centered on learning or developing a skill.

According to Wynn, the definition of luxury itself is evolving as travelers increasingly prioritize memorable experiences like a cooking class over the traditional markers of an expensive vacation.

“I think luxury has always been about the experience, but what’s changing is how people define a great experience,” he said.

That thinking extends beyond hotels and vacation rentals. Wynn said Chase’s online cruise booking business, launched last spring, has become its fastest-growing travel segment, with triple-digit growth this year. The company has also expanded its travel advisory services and continues to invest in more personalized trip planning.

“Ultimately, we want Chase Travel to be a place people choose because it’s the best way for them to travel,” not just because it’s where they can use their points, Wynn said.
