Aryna Sabalenka, the No. 1-ranked women’s tennis player in the world, closed out a pre-tournament press conference in Toronto by backing the Women’s Tennis Association’s new eligibility rule and stating the biological reality at the center of the women’s-sports debate.
During a press conference ahead of the Canadian Open in Montreal, Sabalenka was asked about the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) new common-sense policy requiring a one-time genetic sex test for all female players. Instead of cowering to transgender activists and the mainstream media, the Belarusian superstar doubled down on biological reality.
“It is very important to keep fairness on our tour. It is obvious that, biologically, men are much stronger than women. Therefore, I would not find it fair for a woman to compete against a biological man,” she told reporters.
Sabalenka didn’t hedge. She didn’t issue a carefully worded non-statement. She told the truth.
“I believe it took them a little while to make this decision, and yeah, I support it. But for me, I’m focusing on myself, on my goals… If they want to test us all, I’m happy to do that. It’s pretty fair, and let’s keep it that way,” she added.

Sabalenka was speaking at the National Bank Open, where she entered as the top seed in Toronto. The official WTA rankings currently place the 28-year-old Belarusian at No. 1 with 8,550 points, ahead of Elena Rybakina at No. 2.
The remarks came after the WTA adopted an updated Women’s Eligibility Policy that took effect July 21. The official policy bases eligibility on biological sex and requires a one-time screening for the SRY gene, generally found on the Y chromosome. A player may be screened through saliva, a cheek swab, or blood.
The policy includes limited provisions for certain differences of sex development when a player has never experienced the physiological effects of male mini-puberty or male adolescent puberty. It also says all players must be treated with dignity and bars harassment based on appearance or gender stereotypes.
Sabalenka has been consistent. Last year, ahead of her “Battle of the Sexes” exhibition against Nick Kyrgios, she told Piers Morgan the same thing: biological males retain a “huge advantage” and it is “not fair on women to face basically biological men.” A woman spends her entire life training to the absolute limit of female physiology, only to face someone who went through male puberty. That is not inclusion. That is erasure.
This is not complicated. Men have greater muscle mass, bone density, lung capacity, and strength on average. Those differences do not disappear because someone declares a new identity. Elite female athletes have been sounding the alarm for years while activists, corporate sponsors, and captured sports bureaucrats gaslit them. Sabalenka just refused to play along.
