A vigil for the late and great Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University, was held on September 15 at the University of Texas at San Antonio’s main campus, drawing approximately 1,000 attendees. Xaelyn Dunbar, a 19-year-old man, posted threatening comments on Facebook under a post by the San Antonio Young Republicans promoting the vigil, stating it was a “disgrace” and implying he would ensure it was not peaceful. In response to another user, Dunbar escalated the threat by writing, “you’ll see tmr I jus wouldn’t advise tryna stop a ford 250 Diesel truck. Show yall how much Charlie really means.”

The threats were flagged by the Southwest Texas Fusion Center and relayed to UTSA police, prompting officers from San Antonio and Universal City police departments to conduct a welfare check at Dunbar’s apartment that evening. During the encounter, Dunbar admitted to making the posts but described them as “being dumb” and “clowning around,” adding that he could accept the consequences if charged. Dunbar was arrested on a charge of terroristic threat and booked into Bexar County Adult Detention Center on a $40,000 bond, while the vigil proceeded without incident.
