Vice President JD Vance’s office on Sunday, July 19, that he and Second Lady Usha Vance welcomed a baby boy into the world this morning.

“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning,” the Vance family said in a statement.

“Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother,” he added, thanking the Walter Reed Medical Center and White House Medical Unit doctors and staff.

Alec is Vance’s fourth child. Usha Vance is the first Second Lady in over a century to give birth while her husband is serving as vice president.

Axios noted that former Vice President Schuyler Colfax and his wife, Ellen, were the last couple to have a son during a pice president’s time in office in 1870, when Ulysses S. Grant was President.

    Full statement below:

We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.

The incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit have been a blessing. We are deeply thankful for all they have done for our family.

    More From NBC:

She and her husband, Vice President JD Vance, have three other young children, two boys and one girl, who are ages 4 to 9.

While promoting his new book this year, Vance previously said it was unlikely that he would take parental leave once the baby arrived. The couple announced the pregnancy in January and said at the time that she was due in late July.

In March, the vice president, who could run for president in 2028, said at a White House event in Michigan that he had to persuade his wife to have another child.

I remember when we decided to run for vice president, I said, ‘Honey, I really want to have a fourth kid.’ And she said, ‘Well, you can become vice president or you can have a fourth baby,’” Vance said. “But, ladies and gentlemen, I am persuasive, because I got both.”
