Argentina lost the game, and lost their minds – Screengrab Social Media/X

The sorry blue and white losers also turned their back when Spain was raising the trophy.

As a Brazilian, I’m biased against Argentina when it comes to sports.

But during this otherwise excellent 2026 World Cup, the whole world saw just how utterly vile they are, and most of us Brazilians breathed easier when Spain conquered its well-deserved title.

To top it off, I don’t know anyone who thinks that the FBI investigation into Argentine federation is unconnected to the fact that referees shamelessly favored the Platine side during the tournament.

The Champions Who Forgot to Play Football!

Here is a statistic to frame above your fireplace and show your grandchildren: Argentina’s first shot of any kind in Sunday’s World Cup final arrived in the 115th minute, a record of futility for a World Cup. Spain finished with 20…

Of course, when the final match was over, the Argentine losers had no better idea than to physically assault the Spanish champions in an ugly but unsurprising turn of events.

In the words of The Telegraph: ‘Ungracious in victory, disgraceful in defeat’.

“Argentine players punched, kicked and grabbed their Spanish counterparts by the throat as the World Cup final turned ugly after the final whistle.

In a further lack of sportsmanship, the South Americans then turned their backs on their opponents during the trophy lift at the MetLife Stadium.

The match itself had already been dogged by dark arts from Argentine players, who were reduced to 10 men in the third minute of injury time when Enzo Fernández was shown a second yellow card. But after the final whistle went on a 1-0 extra-time victory for Spain, Argentina reacted furiously.

Leandro Paredes was shown a straight red card for prompting a brawl. It was the second time Argentina had received two World Cup final red cards, having had two dismissals in their 1-0 defeat by West Germany in 1990.”

Moments like this don’t represent what football should be about. No Argentina player or any player should behave this way. Winning and losing are part of the game, but respect should always come first. pic.twitter.com/MABEBChfGP

When it was time for Spain to raise the trophy, more disgraceful behavior from them.

While no one is expecting much from FIFA – which favored the South Americans at every turn – they had no alternative but to open an investigation today.

    Associated Press reported:

“Video replays showed several players involved in a scuffle, including Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes. He appeared to shove Spain’s Eric Garcia by the throat. When Spain substitute Gavi jumped in to intervene, Paredes pushed him to the ground.

Spain captain Rodri also seemed to be hit in the stomach by Argentina defender Nahuel Molina as he ran past to join teammates celebrating the title win.

Molina later crowded Rodri, who was the target of a verbal confrontation by his former Manchester City teammate Nicolas Otamendi.”

Argentina will face an investigation into the ugly scenes at the end of the World Cup final, Fifa has confirmed. pic.twitter.com/P9tApsghcJ
