Since at least the last year, numerous eye drop products have been recalled due to concerns that they lack adequate sterility.
Now, more eye drops are being recalled over those same fears. This time, the products were sold at a major retailer with locations in nine states. Here’s what you need to know.
What’s happened?
On September 13, the popular grocery store chain Wegmans announced that two of the eye drop products sold in its stores are being recalled by their manufacturer, TopCo, a private-label food and household products company based in Illinois.
The items in question were produced under TopCo’s TopCare brand, which focuses on beauty and healthcare products.
According to Wegmans’ recall notice, two TopCare eye drop products are being recalled due to “Potential sterility assurance concerns.”
If that sounds familiar, it’s because the past few years have seen a wave of eye drop product recalled due to similar concerns.
As Fast Company previously reported, nearly 76,000 cases of eye care products were recalled in May 2025 by BRS Analytical Service LLC over concerns around “unacceptable quality.” A report by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cautioned that the recalled products lacked an “assurance of sterility.”
In April of this year, another eye drop recall made headlines. This one involved more than 3.1 million bottles, sold under different brand names, including TopCare, CVS, Walgreens, Good Sense, and Best Choice. Those eye drops were reportedly not properly tested, so their sterility could not be assured.
Then, just last month, 40,000 bottles of eye drops made by Prestige Brands Holdings were recalled nationwide over fears of a “heightened risk of harm” from sterility issues.
As Fast Company reported at the time, sterility concerns are taken exceedingly seriously. Eye drops that aren’t sterile can lead to infection or even blindness.
What products are being recalled?
Two products are involved in this latest recall. According to a recall notice published on Wegmans’ website, those products are:

- Lot Codes: RG25M01, RG25N02, RG25N03
- Name: TopCare Dry Eye Relief Eye Drops

Where were the recalled eye drops sold?
The recall notice states that the products were sold at Wegmans. Wegmans has more than 100 locations in the following states and the District of Columbia:
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- New Jersey
- New York
- North Carolina
- Pennsylvania
- Virginia
- District of Columbia (DC)

What should I do if I have the recalled products?
Do not use the recalled products.
Wegmans says the recalled items can be returned to their in-store service desk for a full refund.
