Elon Musk does not shy away from bizarre conflict: He dared Mark Zuckerberg to a cage fight that never materialized, publicly feuded with President Trump after a monthslong public friendship, and even challenged Vladimir Putin to “single combat.”
But Musk’s most recent opponent is neither a world leader nor a major tech figure. It’s the irreverent popular game Cards Against Humanity.
The conflict surrounds Starbase, a community in the Rio Grande Valley built as a launchpad for Musk’s SpaceX rockets as well as a residential area for the company’s employees.
As of 2025, the city had 500 full-time residents.
But part of the land the city is built on is actually owned by the card game company. According to Cards Against Humanity, the company bought the “pristine parcel of land” nine years ago as a way to block Trump’s U.S.-Mexico border wall plan. At the time, the land was purchased with support from the public, with 150,000 people paying the company $15 each to secure the land.
But two years ago, the company found out the Musk-backed Starbase construction had “completely fucked that land with gravel, tractors, and space garbage,” leading them to pursue legal action.
“After battling his team of expensive, jizz-gargling lawyers, we eventually got him to admit on the record that his company did, in fact, fuck up our land,” the company said in a blog post. “Then he packed up his space garbage and left.”
With their land now surrounded by the growing Starbase city, Cards Against Humanity is taking a page out of their own playbook to get back at the tech billionaire and letting the public pitch in $10 to join the “Elon Musk Is a Sad Little Bitch With No Friends Monument Design Committee.”
The blog post continued: “We still have our rights as proud Texas landowners. We can build something on our land. Something that will annoy Elon Musk. Something that will make him wonder, for a brief moment, ‘Wait, am I a sad little bitch with no friends?’”
Cards Against Humanity is not the only critic of the new company town. The city, which has a street called Meme Street, has begun cutting off access to non-SpaceX residents. Safety concerns have also been raised over SpaceX rocket testing explosions. Existing Texas residents have also sued SpaceX over home damage caused by sonic booms.
The card game company’s plan aims “to force a moment of introspection upon the world’s richest, ugliest little bitch,” the blog post said, and will allegedly lead to a monument built on the company’s land near the SpaceX executive housing.
The Cards Against Humanity-backed monument is set to be joined by many other statues in the area. French sculptors from Atelier Missor are currently working on a 30-meter-tall Prometheus statue.
While designs and specifics have not yet been revealed to the public, Cards Against Humanity is offering other ways to pitch in to the cause. According to the post, 10% of the proceeds from some of the company’s expansion packs will go toward the monument.
