Police presence after an officer was killed in a gunfight in Newark, New Jersey on March 7, 2025.

At least five people have been shot in a mass shooting at Lincoln University in Chester County, prompting a massive law enforcement and emergency response Saturday evening.

Authorities confirmed that police from multiple agencies, including Chester County and neighboring departments in Lancaster and Delaware Counties, have rushed to the campus.

Dispatchers reported an active shooter situation with multiple victims.

At least one patient was airlifted from the scene by a MedStat helicopter to a local hospital, while others were transported by ground ambulance.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office released a statement acknowledging “a shooting with multiple victims” at Lincoln University and urged the public to avoid the area.

“Law enforcement has responded to the scene and are actively investigating,” the statement read.

As of late Saturday, at least four confirmed patients were reported, though officials later indicated that the total number of victims may be at least five.

Their conditions have not yet been made public.

Campus buildings were placed on lockdown as police searched for the shooter. Emergency alerts were sent to students and staff warning them to shelter in place.

Witnesses described a heavy presence of marked and unmarked police vehicles converging on the campus within minutes of the first 911 calls.

Mutual aid units from Lancaster County and Delaware were dispatched to assist with medical transport and crowd control, underscoring the scale of the emergency.

The motive and identity of the shooter remain unknown, and police have not confirmed whether a suspect is in custody.

Investigators were seen canvassing the area around campus buildings as helicopters circled overhead.

Lincoln University, located about 45 miles southwest of Philadelphia, is one of the nation’s historically Black universities.

The campus typically hosts more than 2,000 students, though it was not immediately clear how many were present when the shooting occurred.

Officials are expected to provide further updates as the investigation continues. Residents and students have been urged to avoid the area until authorities declare the scene secure.

    This is a developing story.
