How 2026 is going so far

In May, Fast Company reported that at least 14 Five Guys locations across seven states had closed or were set to close in the first half of 2026.

However, the total number of location closures has not yet been confirmed by the privately held company.

Fast Company reached out to Five Guys to ask whether it has an updated list of 2026 closures. We’ll update the story if we receive a reply.

The 2026 Five Guys franchise disclosure document shows that the fast-casual burger chain plans to grow its footprint overall.

As of December 31, 2025, Five Guys had signed 286 franchise agreements in the U.S. for locations that had not yet opened.

Thirty-seven new locations were projected to open: 30 franchised and seven company-owned. Florida has the most planned growth, with 56 franchise agreements signed for locations that had not yet opened.
