What’s happening in the Prime Minister’s offices?

During the two presidential terms of failed Emmanuel Macron, France has had no less than 7 Prime Ministers.

So rapid was the rotation in this key position of the French Republic that even current Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu resigned less than a month after taking office, only to be reinstated a few days after.

But underneath this chaotic panorama, a troubling pattern of harassment was spreading that eventually would lead to desperation and death.

Now, a series of ‘suicides and suicide attempts’ at the prime minister’s offices has plunged it into yet another crisis.

    The Telegraph reported:

“The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal ‘psychological harassment’ investigation into allegations of toxic workplace bullying following the suicides of two employees, two suicide attempts and one suspicious death at the prime minister’s services (SPM) since last October.

The SPM is made up of 50 departments and around 3,500 employees who work in liaison with the prime minister’s office.”

It comes after two employees committed suicide, two suicide attempts and one suspicious death as well as allegations of a toxic workplace…

None of the victims have worked directly with Lecornu.

“Most recently, a woman identified as “Laura” tried to take her own life in April by throwing herself under a train but was saved by a commuter. Months earlier, she had drawn up her will and made preparations for her own funeral, reported French radio France Inter. After the attempted suicide, the woman filed a complaint for moral harassment and endangering the lives of others, prompting a larger investigation into workplace conditions.”

Under Macron’s chaos, the Prime Minister’s Office became a revolving door.

“The prime minister’s office has become something of a revolving door because of the political turmoil under Emmanuel Macron. […] ‘It’s a new army that arrives every four or six months. The chief of staff arrives and wants to set up his new organization. The teams change, we redo the offices, the telephones, we must comply with the new demands of the new boss’, an unnamed source told France Inter.”
